The Group 1 focus turns to Sydney this Saturday as the Golden Slipper carnival kicks off with Coolmore Classic day at Rosehill. Lady Shenandoah will be hard to beat in the Group 1 mares' feature while the support acts include the Ajax Stakes, Phar Lap Stakes and Maurice McCarten, plus the Pago Pago and Magic Night for two-year-olds chasing a last-minute Slipper ticket.
In Melbourne the action is at Caulfield for the rich VOBIS owners' and breeders' day. The $1 million VOBIS PLatinum Showdown for two-year-olds, the $500,000 VOBIS Platinum Guineas for three-year-olds, the $500,000 Peter Young Stakes and the $250,000 Country Mile Final are the highlights.
There's black-type action for the three-year-olds at Ascot, with the running of the Sheila Gwynne Classic, while Sunday is Yarra Valley Cup day and Country Championships Qualifier day at Coonamble.
